Lucy and Lola are in England with Juliet...and I see there haven't been many posts here!
This past month:
Lola lost her second tooth;
Lola graduated from Kindergarten from Salisbury Central (thank you Mrs. McClave!);
Lucy got into the Pre-K program at the Salisbury Central (thank you Ms. Gaschel-Clark);
Lucy has decided that it's ok to wear dresses (she had a solid ban on them for awhile);
Lola found that wearing shorts or pants were ok (opposing anything other than a skirt or dress); ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND
Lola learned how to ride a two-wheel bike thanks to Alejo's Dad, Tom Woelper, who took all of 5 minutes telling her what to do. She has been enjoying racing her friend Alejo around the Bissell quad.
Meanwhile, Lucy refuses to ride a trike. Just won't do it. So she'll just run around the quad with her helmet on, trying to chase bikers or race neighbor, little Jack Herold.

Lola lost her first tooth a couple of days ago! We heard that The Tooth Fairy and Mrs. Fairy argued about how much money they were going to leave in exchange for this first tooth, and compromised on $2.50.
In other news, Lucy took to finding a pair of scissors that we haven't seen in ages -- since last year? -- and I found her cutting her hair again.
The following week, she found some baby powder and shook it all over her head and face.
This morning I woke up to find Lucy was NOT in the house. This is a first. I woke up to what sounded like a door closing -- so I jumped up, looked around the house and she was not inside (Juliet is out of town). I peeked out the window and didn't see anything. I opened up one of our doors, and there she was -- in her pajama top, saggy diaper, flip flops and rain hat, walking up to the dining hall.Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy decided to give herself a haircut this evening. Not just a trim, but a full-fledged number. I kinda like it because it's short and punky, but we may have to adjust it a little bit to be a bit more satisfactory. :)

Lola had her first Daisy Scout meeting yesterday(too young to be a Brownie!) and loved, loved, loved it.
When she came home, she showed me her new friendship bracelet, and then said, "But we didn't go camping yet."
Meanwhile, Lucy has backtracked on her potty training. She was perfect for the first couple of weeks, so I'm not sure why she is doing this but suffice it to say that Juliet and I are pulling our hair out.
Daycare has called to say that Lucy has shown obsessive tendencies toward the computer. I giggled inside just a little bit because Juliet calls me a computer addict.
All in all, both kids seem to be pretty happy, most of the time (except when they battle each other!!!). : )Comments:Add a comment:

Today was the historical inauguration of America's 44th President. When I asked Lola what her favorite part of the inauguration was, she said it was "the lady who wore the hat with the bow and sang." It was a reference to Aretha, and I was pleased that she liked Aretha, and most especially her divalicious hat.
Lola and I also went to the doctor today for her annual check-up, and she was a star. The nurse was particular impressed with her advanced degree of holding the pen and drawing a picture of me.
Lola remains in the 25th percentile in height and weight. She's so lean and tiny! She's almost 42 inches and she weighs just over 36 pounds. Aw.
Lucy started daycare and really seems to be enjoying it. She's wearing underwear to bed now and has only had one accident. We're totally impressed.
Lucy also knows almost the entire alphabet by sight now, something I attribute to Lola's having learned the alphabet this fall in Kindergarten and helping her little sister along.

I know, I know, it's probably too much information, but...
Lucy pooped on the potty today. Much better than doing it on the carpet and trying to do artwork with it with a paint brush (talk about "mixed medium".
Tomorrow she has her pre-school screening.Comments:Add a comment:

It's been so long since we've posted a story here!
I am happy to report that Lola, now 5 with a recent birthday in December, is flourishing in Kindergarten. She is beginning to read books - -really sounding out the words and figuring them out -- which is so fantastic to see.
She can easily write letters too, and is interested in writing notes and email and signs.
Lola is also growing emotionally, too. She generally has been very helpful and careful with Lucy these past months, like holding Lucy's hand while Lucy was getting stuck in very icy snow outside in our front quad area.
And Lucy has a milestone of her (very) recently. A few days ago, I got her to start using the little yellow potty that we may have brought with us from Burbank a couple of years ago.
We've tried bribing, peer pressure, you name it, and the girl just would NOT use the potty. But she has seem to get it, mostly, now, which is a great relief, although Juliet had a story from today that doesn't include pee, but, rather, poop.
Lucy missed the toilet by about a foot, and then tried to start cleaning it up (or, um, painting) by spreading it with a paintbrush she found. I was, luckily, outside trying to jumpstart our car!
Now that Lucy is nearly potty-trained we can put her into daycare (CT has much more strict rules about potty training in pre-school than CA!). And she will be taking a pre-school screening this week to see if she is eligible for pre-school in our local elementary school! She is learning the alphabet much earlier than Lola, but only because I think Lola is helping her learn them!
As part of the screening, we are asked how to describe Lucy. Free spirit. Naughty. Possibly deranged come to mind. And I mean that in the most loving, possible way.
Other than that, Juliet has been taking the girls swimming, and I am more of the baking/crafty mom (who knew?). The girls also enjoy the Wii, and are actually pretty good about it.
More later, with, hopefully, some photo uploads! The girls really enjoyed watching videos of themselves when they were smaller.Comments:Add a comment:

The latest Lucy story from Stephanie...
Many moons ago -- when I was still in elementary school -- our family had a white toy poodle named Peppy (who hated me, btw). When he died, our family had a little service for him and buried him in our backyard.
When our dear Rooben died on Wednesday, May 7, our neighbor Leslie Harold (age 6) gave Lola and Lucy two identical stuffed animals -- white poodles.
When Juliet asked Lucy what the name of her poodle was, she said Peppy (in case you're wondering, I've never mentioned Peppy our poodle to either of the girls....).
I thought that was kinda freaky, so I wrote to tell my sister about it. and she wrote back:
Okay, my mouth just hit the floor and I have chills. You are not going to believe this…But this makes it even more freaky:
As I was going to sleep the night Rooben died, I was wondering why May 7th had such a huge meaning to me. and without hesitation, I realized that May 7th is also the day Peppy died.

Lola has been begging to try out for the school talent show. She wants to show off her dance techniques and have people clap for her.
As it turns out, I took her to tryouts (and she begged for me to put her in her dance clothes, which I ended up doing!) and she totally balked. But then she re-begged to try out again. We might have her try to dance on stage with her friend Nisa, who was also there.Comments:Add a comment:

Two Things -- Lucy related.
1. I have grown accustomed to putting Lucy in her crib as part of a "time out" when she starts acting up (her bedroom door doesn't lock, and she won't stay in a corner). The nice thing is that she usually screams at the top of her lungs for a few minutes, then passes out because she's so tired.
So yesterday I put Lucy in her crib for being a little too sassy, and I stayed by her door as she screamed, and then complete silence -- which I took for sleep. I walked away, proud of such quick results.
I went into the study and not moments later I heard Lola say "hi!", which I thought was kinda weird -- but figured she was probably playing with her dolls/stuffed animals.
When I got up to check on the situation, there was Lucy, playing with Lola. Lucy looked at me and said "Hi!" with a smile, as if nothing had happened at all. I went to her and asked, "Lucy...how did you get out of the crib?" and she said, non-chalantly, "I swung."
2. Today Lucy ate at least 4 turkey hot dogs, right in a row. FOUR (possibly 5). She had the dogs with two cups of milk and a dash of carrots and some grapes, to round out the meal.
