So, Lola wouldn't wear her Halloween costume (Elmo) until I bribed her with chocolate (an idea recommended by my sister - Mother of 4). Then she wore it for maybe 5 minutes - tops. And then Halloween was over. No trick or treating for us because Lola wasn't into it.
Lola is not eating any of the healthy food that Mama is making her, so I bought some multi-vitamins for her just in case.
Today Lola started her new 2 year old class - though clingy in the morning, she apparently had a good time the rest of the day.
Poor Lola has been so clingy lately. She wants to be held all the time, and her attachment to Lucy is fading, I fear (she wants to be held, doesn't want Lucy to be held).

Well, she's practically a genius. OK, we're a little biased, but our little one, Lola, surprised us today by counting to 10. She was really good at counting to three, but never made it further than one...two...three...go! But tonight she copied Stephanie all the way up to ten and then went around the kitchen counting up to ten over and over again!
We also celebrated Lola's friend Margot's second birthday today. We met all our friends at Garfield Park in South Pasadena and played until it was too dark to see the playground equipment. Lucy was passed around from friend to friend, so Stephanie and Juliet got a little break!
It's been a Halloween extravaganza weekend with the playgroup friends, even if Lola refused to put on her costume. Aunty says to bribe her with chocolate, which we may go ahead and do. who wouldn't want to wear an Elmo costume? : )Comments:Add a comment:

Today Lucy turned 6 weeks old. She already fits into some 3-6 month old clothing (whereas Lola probably fit into 3-6 month clothing when she was 9 months to a year).
...Sorry if there's just too much detail here, but this website is also serving as a history of Lucy and Lola's first years for when they become a little older and might themselves be interested in this stuff...
Lola is transitioning into the 2 year old room next week. Lucy and I dropped by her school during her nap time...she's the only kid who doesn't want to sleep on the cot they provide. So she is propped up by pillows, with her hands behind her head like she's just soaking up the life. Apparently, her teacher (whom she adores) Delia had to rub her nose (?!) and face to get her to go to sleep today.
The teachers think that Lola and Lucy look alike.
Lucy is definitely more aware and alert. She is starting to coo, can easily lift her head up when she lies on her tummy, and often smiles when I make a cooing sound to her. I'm so glad she's reacting to her surroundings now (usually). She's still fascinated with lights, windows, etc., and she still likes to be held, hates her car seat, and when in the stroller must always be moving. Like her sister, Lucy doesn't like taking naps in the bassinet. She definitely tracks a toy when I move it back and forth in front of her.
It's so sweet to see Lola try to give Lucy a pacifier when the baby is crying (although, sometimes she really tries to just shove it in her mouth), or put a blanket over Lucy when Lucy is in the swing (although, she often puts it over her head, too, or starts patting Lucy (sometimes a wee bit too hard). Anyway, it's sweet to see Lola love Lucy and I can't wait for Lucy to get older and reciprocate the love...

Today is Lucy and Lola's cousin Jenna's birthday (happy birthday, Jenna!) and the whole H-T (Henderson-Thomas) clan went down to Laguna yesterday to celebrate with the White family in their nice, new, big house! Lola tried pomegranate for the first time and liked it, while Juliet splattered pom juice on Stephanie's shirt (thankfully, Stephanie's sister, Bonnie, washed it immediately and the stains came out). We also had delicious tamales for lunch, and Lola liked those, too.
We all went to the beach, and Lola was fascinated with the waves. She was just mesmerized. She called it the bath, recollecting her time this past summer at the beach with Granny and Grandpa (pa-pa) at Westward Ho!, where anything with water was called a bath because that's all she knew.
We also met up with Grandma, cousin Jamie and Aunt Suzie for dinner at Ruby's. Lola acted out until she got some french fries and some battered and fried chicken, along with a small ice cream cone (Juliet usually only allows good, healthy food, but Lola innately knows which food is bad for her, and that's what she wants).
After Jenna opened her presents, we had some YUMMY chocolate cake. Lola begged for that, too. Looks like she has a sweet tooth like her Mommy. : )
It's nice seeing everybody - the family - because Lola has such a great time with her cousins, running around in circles and screaming and laughing, and all the adults take turns holding and feeding our Lucy, which is a nice break for Juliet and Stephanie. Stephanie even snuck in a short nap.
When we got back home, Mommy fed Lucy at 9:45pm, and she didn't wake up until 5:15am. Mommy's first words when she looked at the clock were "wow" and "nice!". She changed Lucy's diaper, fed her a few ounces of milk, and tucked her back in...and she didn't wake up again until 9am!
This might be boring news to some of you, but it's a glimmer of hope and a milestone in Stephanie's book!
PS She latched on again this morning...strange after nearly 6 weeks of not doing so. Hmm. But she smiled a lot afterwards (esp. when I made googly noises and faces), so it's all good.Comments:Add a comment:

Lola is really stringing her words together now; it's happened quite suddenly. One still can't decipher half of what she says, but she's very chatty and often makes a long sentence of some sort, then pauses as if to wait for our comment, then nods her head and says "ya!"
More often than not, Lola is getting her colors correct (blue "boo", pink, yellow, red, green "geeeen")and is singing her ABCs (truthfully, it's more like A, B, C, D - then it kinda goes to f or g and fades away). Juliet notes that she sings it when she's really happy but has also sung it through being upset about something.
Today the whole family had it's first official outing with just the 4 of us. We went to Descanso Gardens and Lola rode a "choo-choo" with Mama (while Mom fed Lucy). At another time, when Lola wanted to give Mom her cup o' milk, Lola turned to Mom and said "Here you go, Mommy" while handing Mom her cup. It was really cute, and it was the first time she tied a big sentence together like that.
Lola's favorites: Elmo and Dora. She goes back and forth on the videos...and she has been so helpful with Lucy; it's just adorable.
Tonight Mama went to a Westridge event, and left Mom alone with the two babies. So far, I've survived. Phew.
Lastly: tonight Lucy breastfed. She has never really done it with me, but tonight I held her, and she suddenly latched on (after almost 6 weeks!!). I don't think breastfeeding will be a regular occurence, but Lucy fell asleep in my arms as she breastfed. It was definitely a bonding experience. A milestone!
That being said, I think I'm glad I've been pumping and bottle-feeding her because it took a really long time to breastfeed (she kept falling asleep, then waking up and taking a nibble, then falling back to sleep), and I couldn't move my arms or hands (or really, anything else) while sitting there with her...Selfishly (and yet, good for my sanity I think), it gives me the freedom to have someone else feed her so I don't have to be on call every two hours. Moooooooo!Comments:Add a comment:

Tonight as Lola, Juliet (Mama) and I (Mommy) sat at the dinner table (Lucy was content in her swing), Lola turns to me and says "bbbbbbbig Mommy." Totally out of the blue. As I was aghast, Juliet starts busting up and Lola laughs too, repeating herself, "biiiiiiiiiig mommy." Then she said stuff like "mean mommy" and what Juliet and I thought was something to the effect of "pudgy mommy" but we left it at that. Lola thought she was really funny. Mama thought it was funny, too.
Last week Lola was exposed to "hand, foot and mouth disease" at daycare. Stephanie and Lucy packed up and went to Laguna to be with her sister and family (quite a nice retreat!), and Lola stayed with Juliet to see if anything came of the exposure. Thankfully, nothing. However, as Stephanie stayed in Laguna, she got a cold, and Lola had a major barf session in Juliet's car. Nice. I bought a swing in Laguna for Lucy so we don't have to hold Lucy 24/7. The lass is heavy.
This week, Lola was bitten twice by her "friend" Natasha in daycare (this is the first time Lola has spilled the beans about who has bitten her). Fortunately, Lola is being transitioned into the "two-year" old room and out of the toddler/biting room very soon.
Lucy's hair is abundant - can't seem to find the right hairdo for her. She is starting to smile and it melts my heart, as it did when Lola starting smiling.Comments:Add a comment:

I know I'm hallucinating, but I swear Lucy said "hi" today. I guess I need some more sleep. Nonetheless, she is starting to stare into my eyes more, and smile. I know the experts say it's gas, but the girl is smiling when she looks at me and I make a funny face or talk to her in a certain way.
Today I put her in her Halloween costume - courtesy of her grandmother - which is a cat. She looked so adorably cute; the pictures don't do it justice. Now we are going to look for a mouse or dog costume for Lola so the girls will complement each other.
Today when I picked Lola up from school, Lola's teacher told me that she was exposed to FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE. !!! That pretty much means our home is quarantined for the next few days to see if she has anything (ie blisters on/in her mouth, feet or hands). Oy!Comments:Add a comment:

Last night Lucy went to bed at 9pm (possibly 10pm). She didn't wake up until 4am! Quite a treat...
Today our friends Jen and Erika (with their kids Avery and Tara) from Playgroup came over; I forced them to bring chocolate.
Bonnie and the rest of the family came over again - Lola and cousin Jack went screaming and laughing all through the backyard. It's totally sweet. Lola loves all her cousins; they are so great with her and it's so nice to see them all growing up.
I was able to take a nap, and today Lucy and I went to Olvera Street and picked up a few items. We ran into kd lang in one of the stores and watched Native Americans dance in the town square to a loud drum beat.Comments:Add a comment:

We are so lucky to have good family and friends. Today, my sister Bonnie and her kids (Jesse, Jenna, Joe, Jack) came to rescue me as Lola didn't have school today and I was nervous about trying to take care of our two babies alone. Bonnie and the gang took turns holding and feeding Lucy and playing with Lola - including a trip to the park. In the evening, our playgroup friend Tara delivered a fresh, hot dinner for two (I was taking a nap, so wasn't able to socialize!). Our Playgroup friends are taking turns delivering 10 meals (more or less) to us for the next couple of weeks.
We are so lucky and fortunate, and so appreciative of everyone's help.Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy went to the doctor today. She weighs 10 pounds, 4 ounces. I don't think Lola weighed that until she was a few months old, if that!

Sorry that this has become a little blog-like...it's difficult to stay home. Lola got a haircut today - finally - and also is saying "Lucy". It sounds a little more like "Toozy" (not to be confused with "toesies"), but we know what she means.
Lola helps to feed Lucy by sticking a bottle in her mouth and holding it there - she is also very considerate and starts piling up gifts (her pacifier, her bottle, books, blankets, her fish aquarium, etc.) when Lucy is in her bouncy chair - sometimes right on top of Lucy.
Last night Lola fed Lucy (with Mom's help) and kept petting her tummy and head while she did it. Today Lola enthusiastically (perhaps a little too enthusiastically) helped to burp Lucy by patting her back.
