Lots of stuff has been going on. Poor Lola is still feeling neglected somehow, and acting out. Can't tell if it's the age, or the new addition, perhaps both. Lucy is still low maintenence.
The whole family was sick last week, but Juliet was the worst, so she kicked the rest of us out and we went to my sister Bonnie's house...which we now call Camp Laguna because they take such good care of us. Lola and Lucy took a bubble bath with their cousins Jack, Jenna, and Joe. We also went to the beach, where Lola was both fascinated and scared of the waves. We had a great time.
Funny story: Lola loves her Dora videos; one of them is about Dora becoming a big sister. At the end of the show, Dora sees her Mom ("Mommy") and her Dad ("Papi") with her new baby siblings. Papi is a dark young man with a moustache and big hair. When we were in Laguna, Lola, Lucy, their cousin Jesse and I went to Taco Bell...when we picked up our food, Lola points and screams repeatedly, "PAPI!!" I look, and there is this young dark guy with a moustache and big hair fixing our food. I had a good chuckle. Poor guy doesn't know he looks like a cartoon character.Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy is great - really patient and mellow.
Lola has been acting up - we don't know if it's her age, or Lucy - probably both. Lola has been very chatty since moving into the two year old class at daycare. We generally have no idea, really, what she is saying, but she says it with such confidence! Perhaps she will grow up to be an excellent debater or politician.
Lola also surprised us somewhat by counting to ten - so we are encouraging her to do at home while we play games. Stephanie uses it when she needs to brush Lola's hair so Lola knows that the ordeal will be over as soon as she gets to 10.
We have to bribe Lola with watching Dora in the morning in order to change her into her school clothes. Otherwise she throws a fit.
Lola has also been asking to go on the potty (something else she's been learning at school). Unfortunately, it's more about flushing the toilet than anything else.
Lo has been on a hunger strike lately, but tonight we couldn't get her to stop eating. Poor thing was making up for lost time.
Lucy is cooing and gooing and looks lovingly into her big sister's eyes whenever she is around.Comments:Add a comment:

This has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the kids (or maybe it does!), but I had to share this somewhere:
A couple of weeks ago both Juliet and I heard a woman say "hello" in our house, and we both jumped. It was coming from our den, and Juliet assumed (and convinced Stephanie) that it came from the baby monitor (we hear that sometimes neighbors electronics can make its way to baby monitors).
Nonetheless, I scoured Lola's room for any toys that may make a noise, I squeezed her dolls, I turned on and off her toys...but there was nothing that said "hello."
Then last week, when I was typing in the dark and Juliet was already asleep I heard the same voice say "good-bye." I screamed.
Tonight, when Juliet was at the computer, a different voice - a male voice - said "hello." It came from the computer monitor, but there was no IM, there was no website, there was nothing that would cause anything to say "hello."
I think my dad "visited" us at our old house, the house in which he died, and now am wondering who's making contact here at the new house. Or maybe we're watching too much of "The Ghost Whisperer." Either way, it's spooky.

Poor Lola woke up with a fever today, so she had to stay home from school and spend the day with her poor Mommy (who was terrified) and her poor sister Lucy.
Lucy was directed to the Neglect-o-matic (NOM) a little more then what Mommy was comfy with, but Lo needed lots and lots and lots of love. When I was holding Lucy, Lola kept saying "down, Lucy." There were several times when I found myself holding the both of them (and not just on the couch, but walking around the house).
Interestingly, Lola also had a moment of fixating on her Grandpa (aka PaPa) as she kept saying "Papa, away."
We did some fun things like watercolor, but overall it was a tough, exhausting day with both kids crying and Lola not going down for a nap and feeling miserable. I'm not sure how other parents do that (take care of two kids) on a regular basis without help and without going entirely bananas. Really.Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy had a really good night last night. She had her last bottle at 8 pm and then slept until 2:20. Usually after the 2 am feed she wakes up at 4 and then again at 6, but last night she went from 2:20 to 5:45 and then again to 8:30!!!! Juliet was on "Lucy duty" overnight, and the infrequent wakings meant that she wasn't too exhausted for school today.
Lola woke up with a fever this morning, so she is not at daycare. Stephanie is having her first day at home alone with both the girls. Wish her luck!Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy went to her two month appointment...has it already been 8 weeks? Yikes, that was quick.
Lucy weighed in at 12 lbs, with a height of 23 inches. The doc called her a moose. : ) She is at the 90% percentile in weight and height, meaning that only 10% of newborns at her age weigh less or are shorter than she. She's a big girl. Bless her.
She is really sweet. Smiling. A solidly great baby. With orange (!) eyebrows.Comments:Add a comment:

Today the family went to Santa Monica Pier to see some of Stephanie's old friends from college - Julie and Sandy. They brought their kids Maddie and Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Maddie was a little too little to ride the rides (and Lola could only ride a few), but Elizabeth had a great, adventurous time, as noted in the November 2005 pictures.
The visit was brief (hard to talk about things when you have young kids!) but it was great to see the girls. All of them.
Lola is getting highly attached to Juliet and doesn't like it when either one of us holds Lucy - esp. Juliet. Tonight she wanted Juliet to pass Lucy onto me. I guess Lucy is no longer the novelty she once was, and Lola is ready for Lucy to hit the road and go somewhere else so she (Lola) can be the center of the universe once again.Comments:Add a comment:

Sorry for the long post:
In order to save my back, and frankly, my sanity, I purchased a baby swing for Lucy. A friend of ours called them "neglect-o-matics" and now I know why!
Lucy loves her swing, so when I go to do something (like wash the dishes) she always falls asleep, which lends itself to me doing something else (can't wake a sleeping baby, for god sakes!), thus the circle of neglect.
But I do feel guilty about it (how did/do other moms stand to live without it??), so I pick her up every so often and make a point to hold her and spend time with her and make eye contact with her while making googly sounds that seem to make her smile.
Juliet left early for work, so I was in charge of both babies (scary). So when I heard Lola saying "Up, Mommy" on the baby monitor, I got her chilled milk and walked into her darkened room and whispered hello. Lola's first words in the morning are usually "Mama?" (as in "Where's Mama?")followed by the command "Dora," and they were this morning as well.
Lola wanted to watch Dora the Explorer. I used the opportunity to bribe her (which is something I seem to be doing a lot of lately) by telling her that we'd watch Dora, but only if she cooperates in my changing her diaper and putting her clothes on for school. Thankfully, the bribe worked: she immediately laid down on the carpet and smiled. Like she won.
Though the bribe (perhaps we should use the term negotiation) worked, I was then subjected to watching a full episode of Dora the Explorer. Doo Doo Doo Doo Dora. Dora the Explorer. The theme song runs through my head all day, every day.
When Lucy started whimpering in her bassinet, I went to pick her up. As I was holding Lucy, Lola started asking to be picked up as well (as she does a lot now). I told her I couldn't because I was holding Lucy, and Lola said, "No Lucy. Down Lucy." I laughed and said, "Honey, where would I put Lucy?" and Lola answered, with her big doe eyes, "Bed." [note: sure, little does don't have blue eyes, but they are sweet and innocent].
So I put Lucy in her bassinet, and she was fine. And then I picked up Lola, much to her delight. She won. Again.Comments:Add a comment:
