Lola and Lucy Henderson-Thomas

August 2005

Though she points to my tummmy and says "baby," I don't think Lola has a clue that her life will soon be changing so drastically with a new baby sister on the way. She loves our attention. Juliet has become the primary caretaker while I sloth around the house, napping, trying to clean and prepare for the new arrival. But, even so, Lola does cling to me every so often instead of Juliet. I've noticed that she likes me to play with her out on the swing, or watch her new "Elmo" excercise video with her (ugh), or likes to have me sit down with her when she eats. She'll also want me to take her on walks (is lola juliet's secret weapon to get me to excercise?) and she'll grab my thumb to take me to different places she'd like to go. She'll bring me a book to read to her and asks to sit on my lap.

    She's really adorable.

This past weekend she spent time with her cousins, her aunties and her grandma, and had a ball. She ate a ton (it appears that her cousins have much more yummy food), and she is addicted to playing in the pool. And although she loves all her cousins, she does appear to have latched onto cousin Jenna the most. Jenna is going to be 11 in October, and has been loving and nurturing and playful with Lola. Seemed that Lola could care less that her Moms were leaving her for the weekend as long as she had Jenna to play with!

Lola has strung together several word sentences, like "Here you go" when she hands us something, and "I love you" which, admittedly sounds more like "Blah Blah you". Yesterday or the day before, she pointed to her diaper and said "Big Poo Poo. Ew!" And sure enough, it was big. and it was ew.

Lola also seems to have a speech impediment. Sounds like Cindy Brady. Ice sounds like Eyeth. Bus sounds like Buthe. Milk now sounds like Mop. And walk like Wop. Go figure.

Our little Lola is growing up from a can-do-no-wrong baby to a feisty little two year old. No longer does she go to bed at 6:30pm. She has become cranky in her old age, and does stall techniques so doesn't have to go to bed so early. It's hard to refrain from laughing when she suddenly says she's hungry, thirsty, or needs to go the bathroom, but I feel obliged to coddle her (who can resist those puppy dog eyes?) - to Juliet's chagrin.
