Here's the thing about obsessive-compulsive disorder: you do things you probably shouldn't do.
Lucy's hair has been bugging me forever as she has long strands of hair with short strands of hair, and it just looks...messy.
So there Lucy was today -- sitting innocently in her high-chair eating lunch -- a perfect opportunity to snip away. I've cut Lucy's bangs before, how hard could it be to trim the back evenly?
I really just took nibbles with the scissors, but it was hard to gauge what I was cutting (meanwhile, Lola is BEGGING to have her hair cut as she sat at the table, too).
So I kept cutting and then I got nervous that I was cutting too much, so I stopped. Lucy's hair is dry now and I just keep thinking to myself, "Oops. I should have taken her to a professional."
It certainly LOOKED easy to cut her hair evenly.
Sorry Lucy! : /

A couple of days ago Lucy took our phone, pushed some buttons, and now we can not receive phone calls or make calls out. Seriously, I have no idea what she did or how we are going to fix it.
On another note, when Lucy walks, it looks like she's been riding a horse all day. She's really bull-legged!

Sadly, Lola and Lucy have now experienced McDonalds. I went to the drive thru today for lunch -- it's just easier -- and Lola chose the DANCING BARBIE over the HOTWHEELS CAR for the Happy Meal. Harrumph.
When we got home, I put the DANCING BARBIE together (Lola LOVES to dance -- a contemporary dancer, I think -- she begs for dance parties)and Lola was appreciating Barbie's outfit and necklace and then - out of the blue - she asks me, "Mommy, where are Barbie's nipples?"
She is a little obsessed about those things, I think. Earlier today she told me that she drank milk out of Mama's chest.
"Why, yes, you did, Lola," I answered. I mean, what else am I supposed to say??? Oy.Comments:Add a comment:

Today I was going to take the girls to the Audobon Society in nearby Sharon, but frankly I think it's too cold!
It SNOWED today. It was like it was lightly sprinkling, but it was snow. Sure, it melted nearly instantly, but it was still snow! No one but Lucy has a snow jacket, so we are going to have to put that on the priority list for all of us as it has been pretty chilly here and I fear an early winter!

Lucy is walking all over the place (a bit wobbly, but walking!). She and Lola fight over the baby doll that Granny bought the girls, so we bought another one and now they fight over that, too.
It's quite cute though to see both girls nurture and love the dolls. Sometimes Lucy will get into the rocking chair with a doll and just pat her and hug her.
Lucy also barks like a dog and can mimic the sound of a monkey.
We've been trying to teach Lucy about facial features, but Lucy seems to be particularly interested in honking our noses and the beauty of the tongue, which she sticks out regularly.Comments:Add a comment:

This post has NOTHING to do with the girls:
Juliet had the day off today, so the kids went to daycare/school and we took a walk to our local restaurant/pub (Juliet says it's not a pub. Harrumph). [It's REALLY cold outside, by the way, and our outfits were scary/embarrassing - to say the least - since we've yet to get true winter clothing.]
Anyway, we were sitting at the table discussing something or other when all of a sudden Juliet's eyes got real big and all discussion on her part was reduced to "uh huh. uh huh."
Moments later, when it was safe to do so, she blurted out something to the effect of "Oh my god; that was Meryl Streep."
Sure enough, I looked out the window to the parking lot, and there is Meryl Streep.
We're from LA, so who really cares when you see a celeb. But still, it was MERYL STREEP, a good star sighting no matter where you are or where you are from.
And here it is, Lakeville (Ms. Streep lives in our township), the middle of nowhere, and she's at our local (and one of our only) restaurants.
Cool.

Lucy just took a few real steps on her own - without falling!
Of course, she was unable to replicate the milestone, but she's almost there...Comments:Add a comment:

Lola and Lucy have been consistently getting up at about 6:30am (ugh) every day.
Yesterday, while looking at the sun rising through our kitchen window, Lola turned to me and said, "the sun is awake." I thought that'd be a clever name for a children's book...
Lola really is bright, I think, and funny. She is also pretty independent. The head of daycare said that she is the youngest in her class at school, but she is the most independent -- she wants to do everything herself (her mother's daughter) like go to the bathroom, or put on clothes, or put a blanket on herself as she goes down for a nap.
While it can be frustrating to have to wait for her to do things, I have to say that she's a really good, sweet girl. Mommy just needs to learn patience.Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy said "Mommy" twice today -- and I think can now differentiate "Mommy" from "Mama" (she has "mama" down!).

Lola is friendlier, happier and sweeter than she has been in months and months, and she doesn't throw tantrums much at all these days.
We'd like to thank the Super Nanny (the one on TV) for the tips that seem to have worked!Comments:Add a comment:

Last week Lucy went to the doctor. Sadly, she has (another) ear infection but you wouldn't know it because she doesn't complain much (Lola wanted the doctor to check her out, too).
Did I mention that Lucy didn't even whimper when she got her vaccine shots?
She weighs nearly 21 pounds (that's the 45th percentile for weight) and is 30 inches long (that's the 75th percentile for height). Her head size is the 50th percentile...
She's still a big girl, but she seems to be thinning out...
and she's not walking yet, but cruising.
Sometimes I think she surprises herself when she stands alone with no help and it's only at that time of discovery that her knees bend and she slowly reaches for the ground for safety.Comments:Add a comment:

We took a trip to Brooklyn this weekend to visit with our friends Stacey and Dawn, and their kids Ethan and Vivian. We also met our friend Lucas and his mom Espy at the Bronx Zoo! We had a blast - photos to be posted as soon as the website is running...
