Today is Thanksgiving so at our big meal we went around the table saying what we were grateful for. Lucy grunted and threw some food, but Lola won our hearts with her response. When asked what she was thankful for, she (unprompted) looked at Juliet and said, "You!" Then she turned to Stephanie and said, "I love you."

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I ordered up some side dishes at the local cafe for pick-up! : )
And even though our town is really, really rural, it is progressive enough that it doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving. It celebrates the Harvest.
LOVE it. :)Comments:Add a comment:

Today, Mommy took Lola and Lucy to the toy store so we can start figuring out what to get Lola for her birthday and the girls for Christmas.
Quite a day! Both of the girls are absolutely obsessed with dolls (harrumph!), and Lucy has a particular attraction to the little black baby dolls on the toy shelf.
Tonight when Mommy and Mama were putting Lola to bed, Juliet asked Lola, "What would you like to dream about that would make you happy?"
And quickly she yelled, "MOMMY!"
Of course, it could be related to the toy store visit, but it still made Mommy's heart all soft and mushy.Comments:Add a comment:

Last night when I put Lola to bed, she asked me to tell me about the little boy and the wolf (she is obsessed with the story). I started telling her the story, but then she asked me to just skip most of it and get to the part where the wolf really comes...
"Out of the corner of his eye," I said, "the little boy sees big, sharp teeth, and a long wolf nose, and beady little eyes, and two furry ears and a long wolf tail...and the boy screams 'Wolf! Wolf!...",
and I look down at Lola and she just shuts her eyes and smiles from ear to ear, all cozy in her bed, underneath an Angel comforter that Grandma gave her.
Of course, it concerns me some that she just wants to hear the part where the wolf eats up the sheep and the little boy, but...Comments:Add a comment:

NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CHILDREN, PART II:
Tonight Juliet and I went out to dinner with some friends. I think this is the first time we've been out in a few weeks (the last time was when we had our Meryl Streep sighting)...
Anyway, we're with our friends and we told them our Meryl Streep story. And one of our friends who has lived here for 6 years said she never saw her before...
And then who do we see sitting at a table across from us? Meryl Streep.
Funny.

The girls are channeling Great Grandma Chavez -- Lucy will take a "wet one" and can be seen cleaning the floors on her hands and knees, scrubbing away both on the kitchen floor and the carpeted living room floor.
Both girls beg to sweep and mop the floor.
I can only hope that they'll channel Grandma when they're older and can actually clean *well*.Comments:Add a comment:

Updates on the girls:
LOLA: Lola has been quite taken with dollies and stuffed animals lately. She cares for and nurtures them, naps with them, feeds them.
She loves to dance - will ask us to put on music so we can all dance together. We're looking into getting her to take a kids dance class in the coming months.
The teachers at school say that she is really independent - in a positive way. She likes to do things herself, her way, with little help from the adults. She also demands that she walk her little sister into her classroom before she goes into hers...
LUCY: Lucy is a walking/running machine. She loves her little school and her teachers. She likes to hide (going to the store the other day was a nightmare) and she likes to play.
She doesn't like the TV much (unlike her sister); she'd much rather play. Lucy, too, has taken to playing with dolls - she will grab one and drag it to the baby rocking chair we have. She'll climb onto that, drink her bottle, and just hold and hug her doll.
She still likes to play peek-a-boo, a lot, but what we've really noticed is that her comprehension has seemed to spike in the past week or so. We'll ask her to do something, and she'll go do it (go give Lola this cup of milk, that sort of thing).
Lucy H-A-T-E-S getting her diaper changed. She's squirrely, which always makes diaper changing difficult! Unlike her petite sister, Lucy inhales food. Hmm. Wonder where she got *that* from...Comments:Add a comment:
