Lola and Lucy Henderson-Thomas

December 2006

Just another aside...Lucy is able to understand simple commands like, "Lucy, please give this to Lola" or "Lucy, please give this to Mama."

Mommy caught Lucy reading to herself the other night. She was carefully turning the pages of one of her baby books with pictures in it and saying "ball" and "apple" (although, truthfully, everything appears to be an apple!). Then she got really frustrated and hit the book. LOL.

Unlike Lola at this age (who could sign pretty well), Lucy just says "Mama" and points to things in order to get her point across.
She and Lola are really playing a lot, too...

We think Lucy is having a brain spurt. In the past couple of days she has said some new words, like "Papa" and "Oscar" -- and every once in awhile she might surprise us with a "Mommy". (Unlike Lola, Lucy still calls both of us "Mama").

She also says "thank you", "fish", "backpack", "blast off", "apple," "doggies", "no" and "up", but her most commonly used word (besides Mama) is definitely "ut oh."

That could be because Lucy is often doing something that she knows she is not supposed to be doing, like eating coins and throwing things across the room, but who knows?

Lucy also Moos like a cow when she sees a picture of a cow, and will try to "woof" when I point to a dog. She can hoot like an owl, and grunts and beats her chest when she sees a picture of a gorilla. I'm sure that will be an important asset to her when she gets older.

No matter how impish she is, Lucy is still a charmer. She's very social with everyone, and smiles and waves to get their attention. Favorite game? Peek-a-boo. She'll do it with total strangers.

Took Lucy and Lola to the doctor today for a check-up. Lola could not have been greater, while Lucy was uncharacteristically crying.

It seemed as though she feared the really nice nurse. It could be because, if I recall correctly, it was that same nurse who gave Lucy her shots just a couple of months ago...

Lola is in the 15-25th percentile for weight and height, and Lucy is now in the 50th percentile for both height and weight. The doctor seems to think, although I don't know how this would biologically be possible, that Lola will be 5'2 or 5'2 and a half when she is fully grown, and Lucy will be 5'5 or 5'6.

Since the donor was 6'2, and Juliet is 5'8 and I'm 5'6, we're thinking that they'll be taller, especially Lola!

Lola's third birthday! The family (well, all of us but Juliet!) has been battling colds and possibly flus...

We didn't plan a party (what is delightful about the Hotchkiss community is that one can "plan" a party the day before, and a lot of people will still come!), but Lola still thinks she had one because we ran into some of her friends at the dining hall (and after).

She got a hideously ugly pink and orange pony (a toy she spotted at a local toy store and went NUTS over) from Aunty Bonnie, which she loves loves loves, as well as a pink tutu dress, ballet slippers and a Barbie Dancing Princess DVD which she also loves. She also got a great book from Granny and Papa - called "Hairy MacClary" which she likes to read every night...

I think she had a good time...

Lucy's new word is "up." She's been clingy to Mommy for the past 24 hours; it may be because she vomited in the dining hall the night before. Poor thing (and Mommy, too, as she had to clean it all up).

Yesterday was the first time I ever saw her scared. She's been slightly nervous about things before (namely, riding a carousel), but yesterday she was petrified, surprisingly, of a bouncy castle at an indoor playground, and of riding the little plastic pony for 50 cents (she was thrilled last time when she rode something similar).

Last night a HUGE tree came crashing down right in front of our front yard, and today we bought ice skates for lola at a swap meet (somebody has loaned us skis for her, too).

Then we went to go see the Alpacas! There was one named Lola...

and...today Lola showed Mommy that she has learned to cross her eyes. It's creepy, and Juliet has already told her not to do it because it's bad for her eyes. We're not sure where she learned how to do that, or why...but it's pretty funny if you ask me.
