Lola and Lucy Henderson-Thomas

April 2006

Today as I loaded the kids into the car to take them to their school, Lola looked at me and said, "Mommy, slippers on." I looked at my feet, and, sure enough, there were my pink fluffy slippers.

    Thanks, Lola.

Tonight Lola started interspersing "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" with the ABC song. Same tune, different words: "Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are. Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z, next time won't you sing with me."

She also counted to ten in Spanish; musta learned that in school! Who knew?

Lucy loves *LOVES* bananas. She has been eating solid food for about a month now, but only vegetables. Her favorites so far have been carrots and peas. But a whole new world opened up to her yesterday: FRUIT! She could not get those bananas in fast enough; she looked like a baby bird after each bite - wanting more, her mouth wide open and leaning forward against the high chair straps so she could get the spoon of bananas in a millisecond sooner!

lola has graduated to wearing "pull up" diapers. in terms of pull-up diapers, we have a choice of "dora the explorer" diapers or "the disney 3: cinderella, snow white and belle" diapers (truly, we're not positive of who is actually on the diapers in terms of the 3 gals, but we're making our best educated guess).

of course, *we* (juliet and i) chose the dora diapers, but lola's school wanted her to wear the other kind because they are easier to get on and off.

so we purchased them. but instead of saying their disney names, juliet jokingly told lola that "the three women are gloria steinem, betty friedan and margaret sanger. and they are strong, powerful, confident women."

so today lola wanted to wear the cinderella (well, i'm assuming it's Cinderella) diaper, and she pointed to it, looked at me and happily proclaimed "gloria steinem."

    love that girl.

Lola was told it was time to go to bed. She answered. "I'm busy." Gotta love her.

Today, Granny, Mama and the girls (Mom had to work) went to the zoo. : ) Fun was had by all!

Last night (or was it the night before?), Lola strummed the guitar while Mom changed the chords. Together, they played "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Very sweet; Lola was so proud of herself.

Lucy has slept through the night the last few nights. We're crossing our fingers that it's the rule, not the exception.

Lola's new thing is sitting at our desk and declaring "I'm checking my e-mail." Scary.

She's also playing lots with paints, and doing mixed mediums...paint, with dallops of play dough interspersed.

PaPa left to go back to England; Granny is still here and staying with us. Lola has really warmed up to her (Lola is generally not a "people person" unless she spends quite a bit of time with them...THEN she warms up).

Lola is extremely moody - having a great time one second and then, BOOM. End of the earth tantrums. And then back to being happy. We're hoping they are short-lived, these moods.

Granny and PaPa are visiting us. Unfortunately, Granny came down with what appears to be the same bug that Juliet, Lucy and I had just a couple of weeks ago!

Today Lucy met Aunt Mary and Uncle Paul and they brought gifts for both girls! (Paul and Mary met Lola right after she was born!).

Lucy is pretty good at sitting up now. We keep her in a boppy to make it more sturdy for her. And this morning we were all watching "Signing Times" on PBS, and Lucy signed "Milk". She did it twice, at different times, so we don't think it was a total fluke. Genius, we say.

Lucy went to the doctor on Friday, and got 3 shots. She weighs 17.8 pounds and is 27 and some inches long. She's in the 95th percentile for height, and 75th for weight. She has more teeth coming in, says the doc. Two uppers. She has had a rough week - up all night - which makes it rough for Juliet and me. Last night I hooked Lucy up with Infant Tylenol. Seems to have worked!
