This month Lola and Lucy took their very first bus ride. Lola had been obsessed with buses, as her hero, Dora, has also ridden on a bus. So we hopped on board and it took us west to a great park. We walked around the lake, and then hopped back on the bus for home!
Lucy was making cute faces to strangers and strangers were making cute faces to Lucy, making her laugh.
It was a long day, but fun.Comments:Add a comment:

Lola is turning into quite the monkey. She enjoys climbing all over Mommy and doing flips and jumps. It scares Mama, who often chooses to leave the room when the acrobatics are being done.

Some people might call it "lying." I prefer to call it "creative parenting." Lola is very set in her ways and likes things just so. She gets very attached to certain clothes, toys, etc. and freaks out when she can't wear or play with them. Tonight I realized that all her warm weather pajamas were dirty and it was too hot for fuzzy ones. She absolutely did not want to wear the onesie that I pulled out for her. It was time for "creative parenting." I asked her whom she wanted to dream about. She told me she wanted to dream about her friend Nicholas. I told her that her onesie was a special summer sleeping suit, and if she wore it and thought really hard about her dreams it would bring her dreams about Nicholas. Worked like a charm. It's 9:40 pm and she has been sound asleep for two hours in her "Special Summer Sleeping Suit."

Today as we were getting ready to leave the house to drop the kids off at school, Lola said she wanted a ponytail. I put Lucy down, grabbed a ponytail, and did Lola's hair. In the meantime, happy-go-lucky Lucy was just drumming on this pack of diapers that were next to her, minding her own business.
When I finished with Lola, she went over to Lucy, took the diaper pack away from Lucy, and said, "No Lucy, we have to go to school."
It was cute, in a way, but more bossy than anything. I guess Lola is going to have to get it out of her system...Lucy is fast gaining on her in terms of size.

Tonight Lola and I went for a brief outing to Target. She pointed to all these men walking by and kept saying "Daddy" really loudly. Oy!

A few weeks ago Lola told me that "some families have daddies." I thought this was really smart of her: some families have one mom, some families have two moms, some families have no moms. And some families have daddies.
But now I'm thinking that she isn't quite as clever as I'd hoped. A gentleman came to our house the other day to give us a quote on something. He was speaking to Juliet in our guest room. And Lola turned to me and said "What is Daddy doing?" And when he was leaving, she asked "Where is Daddy going?".
A long time ago, my sister Bonnie said that Lola was calling my sister's husband, Doug, "Daddy," and at the time I thought Lola was actually saying DOGGIES. But now I think my sister was right. I think Lola just thinks of men as DADDIES.
She must get that from school...with these guys coming into her classroom and her classmates saying "Daddy!"

Today Lola's teacher told Juliet that Lola seemed sad today. When the teacher asked why, she answered that she missed her mommy. If that's not just the sweetest, saddest thing! Since I've been on my back for the past couple of weeks now, nursing a strain, Lola and I've bonded (besides, she seems to be moving on from her terrible twos).
She jumps into bed with me and we read books and she jumps on the bed (ouch), we laugh and we giggle, and she plays with these dots that her Uncle Boy gave her that she can put on a wall, and then peel off. She makes little designs with them. New ones every night!

Lola has been going through a great big sweet streak for the past week. Mommy strained her back, and Lola has been really great. She's given me her teddy bear, tells me she's "sorry," and crawls into bed with me to read books.
Lucy is continuously sweet and good natured and just ... cute. She played and laughed with Grandma this week (as Grandma came to help around the house as I've been flat on my back for the week) and has started to rock back and forth on her knees...crawling is around the corner.
And although she doesn't actually crawl, she somehow moves across the room by rolling and pivoting.
Lucy also has a continuous cough and lots of mucus in the morning, but the doctors don't seem to be concerned much, though Mama and Mommy wonder what's going on...and hopes that she isn't allergic to the dogs. That would officially suck.Comments:Add a comment:

Lucy has had a very dramatic week. Without going into details, she has gone to the ER and the doctor (she's fine - no need to worry!). In addition to the traumatic stuff, she also cut a top tooth, got her first haircut and learned to clap! Wow!!! Oh, and another fabulous thing is that she is sleeping 14 (yes, 14!!!) hours per night without waking up. She goes to bed at 6 and often doesn't wake until 8 the next morning. The only drag is that she refuses to nap during the day, much to the chagrin of her daycare teachers!
