The girls are growing and changing everyday. Lola was sitting on Granny's lap the other day with only a pull-up on. She looked down at her chest and said, "Nipples." Granny agreed that they were indeed nipples. Then Lola added matter of factly, "Granny, I need a bra."
Lucy is pulling up on everything (although not cruising yet) and is developing quite a temper when something happens that she doesn't like. She bit Mama today - HARD. Uh oh. A sign of things to come?
Mama took Lola to the indoor pool today (no cameras allowed) because the wind was very cold at the beach. She had a great time in the learner pool with a bunch of other kids all around the same age (one was her birthday twin!). She had her bright orange floaties and was the happiest girl in the world for about 1 1/2 hours!Comments:Add a comment:

The weather here has been beautiful; it's been warm and sunny everyday and we've taken full advantage of it. We go to the beach everyday and while Lola is still content to only play in the tidepools, she is gathering more courage to put her feet in the "big ocean," as she calls it.
Yesterday Mama took a surfing lesson and left Lola and Lucy in care of Granny and Papa. The girls had a great time, and so did Mama!
Today we have a playdate with two kids who are here visiting their grandparents, too. I will write more after the date; hopefully everyone will be on their best behavior...
...speaking of which: Lola threw such a tantrum yesterday that she caused a minor traffic jam. She refused to get in the car and became virtually hysterical. Eventually, Papa, Granny and Lucy left and Mama had to carry Lola a couple of blocks until she calmed down.Comments:Add a comment:

We have been having some fun-filled days. The girls are enjoying themselves tremendously. They are being spoiled by devoted grandparents, and are going to the beach on a daily basis. Who wouldn't love it? Yesterday we went to Great Uncle David and Great Aunty Rachel's house. The kids had a great time, and Lucy was particularly enamored with Uncle David - she never stopped smiling and playing with him. Aunty Rachel made a delicious lunch; I have never seen either girl eat so much. As one can see from the photos, Lucy particularly enjoyed the raspberries, but they both put down a huge amount of salmon, too!
This morning we all went to a park called "The Big Sheep." It's essentially a theme park of livestock. Lola loved it. She watched a sheep show, where we saw 10 different types of sheep up on a stage. Then we moved on to feeding the goats and looking at other penned animals like pigs, bunnies, guinea pigs, etc. After that we took a break in the amazing indoor playground filled with ball pits, padded mazes and huge slides. The end of the morning was a pony ride for Lola; she felt so grown up! Lucy was a trooper the whole time, as the excursion was pretty much all Lola-based; she smiled and cuddled with Granny the whole time.Comments:Add a comment:

We've been to the beach everyday since our arrival. There is a heatwave in England and Westward Ho! is experiencing temperatures in the 90's, which is unheard of. There are three options here: the ocean, the tidepools or the swimming pool. The swimming pool is really cool because it's a pool built into the rocks, and every high tide it is washed out and refilled by the tide.
Lola is a little apprehensive of the big ocean, so we usually spend our time in one of the countless tidepools. Lucy is able to splash around in them, too, so it's nice for both of them.
There is a family of pheasants who live in the neighborhood, complete with four or five babies. We run into them a few times a day, and sometimes they spend the night in the backyard. Lola loves them, but is a little apprehensive because the mother gets very upset if we get too close - she squawks and flaps her wings a lot, scaring little Lola, who is only a little bigger than the pheasant.Comments:Add a comment:

Greetings from the homeland. All three Henderson-Thomas girls made it safe and sound, although very very late after spending five unexpected hours in the Newark airport.
Lola has taken to hiding from us lately, which is always a little worrying. The other day I couldn't find her anywhere, when all of a sudden I heard a scared little, "Mama?" Backstory: being the good British family the Hendersons are proud owners of a fox head, mounted on the wall after being presented to Great-Grandpa in 1931. (Tastefully placed between two bookcases in Grandpa's study as not to offend or be seen by practically anyone) Anyway, Lola had hidden herself at the other end of the office, and when she turned around she had the scary, fang bearing fox staring her down. She was petrified. When I found her, she said, "Mama, it scares me." Granny came to the rescue by telling her the fox's name is Freddie and that he lives with us and is our friend. Lola was OK with that explanation, but is still quite wary of Freddie.Comments:Add a comment:

Lola, Lucy and Mama are preparing for their trip to England. Mama is taking both the girls by herself...on a plane...alone...with no help... It's only one day. It's only one day. If I repeat it enough it will be OK! Once everyone gets there, it will all be worth it. Granny and Papa are eagerly awaiting everyone's arrival!
