Lola and Lucy Henderson-Thomas

September 2006

This past week Lucy has been especially inquisitive about what things are. She'll point to something, we'll tell her what it is, and she'll repeat it.

While she was nibbling on the dogs' kibble, we said , "kibble" (while taking it out of her hands) and she repeated "kibble." She definitely says doggie when she sees one of the pups and yesterday she pointed to a baby and said "baby".

Speaking of babies, Lola has a cute baby doll that Granny gave her in England, but Lucy just loves that doll. She'll hold her and hug her (and, at times, attempt to eat her head) and her eyes just brighten up when she sees her. Lola, who also likes the doll, has taken to her as well, and lately has been telling us that she came from her tummy.

Lucy's birthday (Sept. 13) was great. Our friend Dawn brought her kids Vivian and Ethan up from Brooklyn and had a sleep-over. When we woke up, some girls from Bissell Hall (where we live) surprised us and decorated our door for Lucy (which we loved!).

While Juliet was at work, we went to a place called Action Wildlife Foundation which is this random wildlife-zoolike place in a place called Goshen. Besides one other family, we were the only people there visiting. It was awesome, it was cheap and we loved it.

Lola, Ethan and Vivian were able to feed goats and lambs bottles of milk and pellets to their joy. Lola kept giving goats one or two sips of the bottle and then saying, "That's enough" while pulling out the bottle of one goat's mouth and going to another and repeating the process. Funny to watch.

Lucy made some little animal friends, too. We think she's like Dr. Doolittle, though we are slightly concerned that she loves to kiss the animals more than speak to them...

The place also had a great outdoor play area for the kids...

When we got home, we met up with Juliet in the dining hall, then opened up some presents. Later, we went to dining hall where everybody was in a great mood. Lucy smothered food into her hair, and Lola took advantage of the soft serve frozen yogurt.

When we got home, Lucy was tired, but not tired enough to appreciate the chocolate pudding awaiting her. We put a candle in it, and Lola helped to blow out the candle. Lola had a couple of bites, but it was really Lucy who dug in and "ate" the pudding.

    See attached photos.

Lucy and Lola started their school last week -- and Lola has asked when she can go to school again. A good sign.

Lucy's nickname "Luz" appears to be appropriate -- she can't get enough of lamps, lights, cords, electrical outlets, you name it. She has definitely kept us on our toes. It took us awhile to get those childproof plug protectors since stores that would carry them are not close by. Still, Lucy is able to pull on cords and things, so we need to find a solution there.

This contrasts much with Lola -- who was never interested in those things.
